The educational and research institutions established over the years in are fully geared to meet this challenge. The educational institutions of international repute include the Indian Institute of Science, eight Indian Institutes of Technology and sixteen National Institutes of Technology. Research institutions include several centres/institutes under the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), Department of Space, Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR). These institutions have contributed immensely towards the development of human resources, research, technology and growth of the Indian industry as a whole.

The Scientific and Technology departments of the Government of India, Academic Institutions, and major industries active in Welding Science and Technology are expected to sponsor and actively participate in this International Congress.

Welding Technology in India

Welding science and technology in India, has matured over the years and have admirably met the challenges of stringent requirements in Nuclear power, Space, Defense and engineering industry. This has attracted the attention of leading professionals from all over the world. The key drivers of present day welding technology in India are global competitiveness, and world-class fabrication. Robust knowledge-base in welding and software technology is a key asset that is employed to enhance its global competitiveness. Advances in materials science and engineering, robotics & automation continue to be productively and judiciously utilized by the Indian industry.

About The Indian Institute of Welding

This International Congress 2005 will be organized by the Indian Institute of Welding (IIW), the premier body for welding professionals in India, engaged in dissemination of knowledge of welding science and technology in India. The IIW is a member of the International Institute of Welding and is devoted to the cause of promotion and advancement of welding technology. Established in the year 1966, with its registered Office at Kolkata, it has eleven branches located at key industrial cities, and boasts of a membership of around 4500 welding professionals and over 300 corporate bodies.
